Climate and Weather of Bernese Oberland, Switzerland

The climate of Bernese Oberland

According to Abbreviationfinder, the Bernese Oberland is a collective name for the alpine areas in the canton of Bern. Most of this outdoor region can be found in the immediate vicinity of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The most famous places in the Bernese Oberland are Interlaken, Thun, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Grindelwald.

The Bernese Oberland is home to some of the most famous tourist sites in all of Switzerland. Think of the waterfalls of Lauterbrunnen, the Schynige Platte Bahn, which departs from Wilderswil or the Jungfraubahn that takes you to the highest train station in Europe. However, the region is best known for its beautiful ski areas. There are already more than two hundred kilometers of slopes at Gstaad, but the Jungrau region with 206 kilometers and Adelboden-Lenk with almost 175 kilometers of slopes are also popular ski areas. Due to the steepness of most of the mountains in this region, there is less ski slopes to be found than in other parts of Switzerland. The slopes that are there are therefore a lot more challenging than in other parts of the country.
